St Jean Pied de Port!

Wow!  This quaint medieval town FAR exceeded our expectations, and we have no regrets hanging out a day here prior to our walk.

First stop: Pilgrim office to get our pilgrim passport (need this to stay in the albergues). Have to get 1 stamp per day to get your certificate at the end.

Old cobblestone streets. Lots of history and amazing architecture in St Jean. We are in Basque Country here and it is just lovely.

Great shops!  like this awesome spice shop and the linens stores!  But I have to carry whatever I buy. Ugh.

Outdoor cafes a plenty. Here’s our lunch spot.

Oh, and the macaroon shop. This guy is the grandson of the original owner. Yes, I bought some. Won’t have to carry those too far!

Maybe I’ll just stay in St. Jean and forget the walking part??

Looks to be good weather for our hike into Spain, and across the Pyranees tomorrow.
